In Case You Missed Us: Data Backup on Tech Talk With KTRS

Unless you were living under a rock last week, you've heard about the Royal Wedding. Before we went on the air for Tech Talk, Guy Phillips and his co-host were using a royal family name generator they found on social media. When our IT expert, Rion Kolosieke, heard about this he took a quick detour from our topic of backup and disaster recovery to talk about the risks with social media games and quizzes.

Rion explained that sometimes, not always, cyber criminals can use those name generator to gain information about you. While some of these games can be in good fun, be cautious of the ones that ask for personal information. Some will ask questions like your mothers maiden name or the name of your childhood pet. Many of those answers are the same personal identification questions that you answer for important things like banking. Not only did Rion deliver that warning, he also came prepared to chat about the dangers of not backing up your data.

Why Backing Up Data is Important

Whether you are using your personal computer or your work computer, there is a good chance there has been some kind of document saving hiccup. Your best chance of ensuring that you don't lose your data is to always save and double check everything. Businesses should have a backup process in place to ensure the proper protection of its important documents. If you're worried about your own personal device, consider backing things up to an external hard drive or cloud service. At the end of the day, it's better to be safe than sorry.
