In Case You Missed Us: Disaster Recovery on Tech Talk with KTRS

We've talked about it before, and we'll continue to talk about it. Having a disaster recovery plan in motion can literally save your company should your data be compromised. Our IT expert, Randy Moore, joined the good people over at The Big 550 KTRS for Tech Talk to chat about why disaster recovery is important both in the office and at home.

Disaster Recovery Saves the Day

Could your business survive without functioning technology and data? Likely the answer is no. While it still may be a possibility, how long could you survive without it? Minutes? Hours? Weeks? The way a disaster can strike technology can vary. Whether its a disaster as big as a hurricane or a random summertime storm that knocks out the power for 5 minutes, the safety of your data can be compromised.

Because of disasters, data backup is a critical component in the preservation of your business. Quite literally, having a disaster recovery plan can act as your office superhero in the event something goes awry!

However, this doesn't only ring true for businesses. It's also important to backup your personal files at home too. Having a plan in action for the safety of family photos, important documents, and other private information is a critical step too. After all, nobody wants to lose precious baby pictures or those memories that only exist now in photos.

One thing that holds true for both personal and business data is that many of us go on our way of thinking, "that would never happen to me!" However, that peace of mind is without security. In fact, just when you think it won't happen, it might!

Is Your Business Prepared For A Disaster?

Randy got to talking about the different ways that SumnerOne works to protect businesses and make sure that their disaster recovery plans are always running smoothly. Randy said that our IT team regularly run disaster scenarios to keep them on their toes. The team also participates in continuing education events with our vendors. Randy also added that every single day, we are actively monitoring our customer's backups to ensure everything is as it should be.

Here are a few questions you can ask yourself about your business to see if you're prepared for disaster:

  • What would a single hour of downtime cost your business? Or your customers?
  • How long would it take you to get back to work from a backup?
  • What happens if your backup is lost?
  • When was the last time you tested your backup solution?
  • Do you think your business would ever recover?

If you're unsure about the answers to these questions, the experts at SumnerOne can help! Randy's best advice to businesses and home users is to just be careful. Pay attention to your device, and if things are running oddly, be aware. Saving your important documents in more than one location is always a good rule of thumb too.
